<p>Having issues with your iPod touch not retaining your Wi-Fi settings? Getting tired of having to enter your Wi-Fi settings every time you want to connect to your network? Irritating, isn&#8217;t it? I feel your pain. I argued with this for weeks before I finally found the solution. With a few simple steps, and about 5 minutes of your life, you can put this problem to rest!<span id="more-142"></span></p>
<p>First, and probably most important, you need to ensure that your wireless network is secure. If it is not, or if you don&#8217;t know what that means, read <a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/19/how-to-attain-wep-and-wpa-simultaneously/" target="_blank">this post</a> for a quick explanation of WEP and WPA and how to set up a basic network, then <a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/19/securing-your-wireless-network/" target="_blank">this post</a> for more on security. After you have secured network, you are ready to correct the iPod problem.</p>
<ol>
<li><a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/25/restore-lost-speed-reset-your-ipod-touch/" target="_blank">Reset</a> your iPod touch.</li>
<li>Once it starts back up, tap the &#8220;Settings&#8221; icon.</li>
<li>Select &#8220;General&#8221; from the menu.<br />
	<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_78F101BE-9E4D-4CFC-910D-371775A89CCA.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Settings Page" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_78F101BE-9E4D-4CFC-910D-371775A89CCA.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Scroll to the bottom and tap the &#8220;Reset&#8221; button.<br />
	<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_6A252D34-9169-465F-BA01-66BEBC2274C4.jpeg"><img class="size-full wp-image-364 alignnone" title="General Screen" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_6A252D34-9169-465F-BA01-66BEBC2274C4.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Tap on the &#8220;Reset Network Settings&#8221; button.<br />
	<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_84CA41D0-0BEE-49A8-9954-386530AB3FEC.jpeg"><img class="size-full wp-image-364 alignnone" title="Reset Screen" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_84CA41D0-0BEE-49A8-9954-386530AB3FEC.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Next you will see this screen. Tap the &#8220;Reset Network Settings&#8221; button to confirm.<br />
	<strong>NOTE:</strong> This will reset <strong>ALL</strong> of your network settings. All saved network information will be lost. If you have network settings on your iPod Touch that you do not wish to lose, you should not proceed.<br />

<li>Once your iPod touch starts back up, <a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/25/restore-lost-speed-reset-your-ipod-touch/" target="_blank">reset</a> it again.</li>

		</div>
<p>Have an iPod touch and a wireless network? Time to put them together. If you don&#8217;t have internet on your touch, you are definitely missing out. We will cover all the steps. Here we go!<span id="more-117"></span></p>
<p>What you will need:</p>
<ol>
<li>Your iPod touch.</li>
<li><a name="step2"></a>A wireless network. If you don&#8217;t know how to set it up, read <a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/19/how-to-attain-wep-and-wpa-simultaneously/" target="_blank">this post</a> for a quick explanation of WEP and WPA and how to set up a basic network, then <a href="http://thekruser.com/2009/11/19/securing-your-wireless-network/" target="_blank">this post</a> for more on security.</li>
<li>Your SSID (if it is not broadcasted).</li>
<li>Your passphrase.</li>
</ol>
<p>Let&#8217;s get it connected:</p>
<ol>
<li>Tap the &#8220;Settings&#8221; icon on the home screen.</li>
<li>Tap the &#8220;Wi-Fi&#8221; button.<br />
		<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_78F101BE-9E4D-4CFC-910D-371775A89CCA.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Settings Page" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_78F101BE-9E4D-4CFC-910D-371775A89CCA.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Ensure the switch for Wi-Fi is on. If your SSID shows without a lock to the right, it is unsecured. This is bad. You <b>definitely</b> need to read the posts listed in <a href="#step2">step 2</a> above. If you just want to leave your network open to any hacker who wants to access it, just tap on your network name and you should be done. Not the best choice, but it is not my network. If your network shows, but with a lock next to it, select it then skip to <a href="#step5">step 5</a>.<br />
		<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_5F154BA0-871F-4F1A-80B2-CCD6F4976440.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Select Network" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_5F154BA0-871F-4F1A-80B2-CCD6F4976440.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a><br />
		If you are not broadcasting your SSID, and you shouldn&#8217;t be, you will not see it here. Select &#8220;Other&#8221; and enter your SSID in the &#8220;Name&#8221; field.<br />
		<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_92EB1309-8BD8-4729-87B9-474C613BCF4E.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Enter SSID" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_92EB1309-8BD8-4729-87B9-474C613BCF4E.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Tap the &#8220;Security&#8221; button and select your encryption method. Tap &#8220;Other Network&#8221; in the upper left to return to the &#8220;Other Network&#8221; page.<br />
		<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_CD577231-70CB-44CE-B8EB-B923BECE4529.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Select Secuity Mode" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_CD577231-70CB-44CE-B8EB-B923BECE4529.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li><a name="step5"></a>You will notice that the &#8220;Password&#8221; field has appeared. Enter your passphrase in the blank.<br />
		<a href="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_C02E96E3-6291-40B8-A2B5-B3BDFA97E844.jpeg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-364" title="Enter Password" src="http://thekruser.com/files/2009/11/p_480_320_C02E96E3-6291-40B8-A2B5-B3BDFA97E844.jpeg" alt="" width="200" height="300" /></a></li>
<li>Tap &#8220;Join&#8221; in the lower right corner once your passphrase has been entered correctly.</li>
</ol>
<p>You should now see your network in the list. It should be a different color than the others and there should be a checkmark to the left of the name. You are now connected.</p>
<p>Did this post help you? Do you have any other suggestions for the readers? Did I get something wrong? Tell me! I would enjoy your feedback. Hope you had fun.</p>

<p>There will come a time when your wireless devices will not connect to your router, even though the Wi-Fi light is blinking. There will be a time when your router will not connect to your modem. There is an easy process that will solve 75% of all &#8220;no internet connection&#8221; problems that exist today. It is called the power cycle. <span id="more-43"></span>There are three steps, pretty simple.</p>
<ol>
<li>Unplug your device</li>
<li>Wait 20-30 seconds</li>
<li>Plug your device back in</li>
</ol>
<p>Now, I realize this is a rather simple process, but you would be amazed at the people who do not take the time to do this one little troubleshooting step. If you are ever lose internet connectivity, your best bet is power cycle both your router and your modem, but it must be done in the following order:</p>
<ol>
<li>Unplug your router</li>
<li>Power cycle your modem</li>
<li>Plug your router back in</li>
</ol>
<p>You will be surfing the web again in no time.</p>
