Foursquare Badges: A Not-So-Comprehensive List

I have been asked on more than one occasion about foursquare badges. What are they? How many are there? How does one acquire them? And so on, and so forth. Well, my friends, without further adieu, here is a list of what I know. Albeit incomplete, it is a list, nonetheless; there are several more to go. The more I learn, the more I will post. Until then, enjoy! Where you see a city in parenthesis, that is a city-specific badge.

Birthday | Send 5 birthday shout outs. |

Boat | Check in on a boat, I guess? No idea. |

Boxee | For taking the L train to Brooklyn to attend a software party. ‘Cause, why not?!? (New York City) |

Brooklyn for Life | Check in 25 or more times in Brooklyn. (Brooklyn…duh!) |
 |
CES 2010 | For checking in at the Los Vegas Convention Center during CES 2010. (Las Vegas…again, duh!) |
 |
Crunked | Check in 4 or more times in a single night. |
 |
Digg SxSW | Check in to the Digg party. (Austin) |
 |
Douchebag | Awarded for checking in at places tagged with “douchebag”. Unsure as to the number of check ins required. |

Entourage | Check in with 10 people at the same time. |
 |
Explorer | Check in to 25 different venues. |
 |
Far Far Away | A local badge. Differs from city to city. (Various) |
 |
Internet Week | For checking in during Internet Week. Again, no idea. (New York City) |
 |
Jetsetter | Check in to 5 different airports. |
 |
Jobs (old) | Check in to 3 Apple Stores. |
 |
Jobs (new) | Same as above, but the icon has changed. Special thanks to TraumaHoundNDS for letting me know! |

Don’t Stop Believin’ | Check in to 3 different venues tagged as “karaoke” in a month. |
 |
Karaoke RV | Check in to the Karaoke RV. No idea what that is either. (Austin) |
 |
Local | Check in 3 times at the same place in one week. |
 |
Newbie | Awarded for your first check in. |
 |
Overshare | Check in 10+ times in a 12 hour period. |
 |
Panel Nerd | Check in 3 times at the Convention Center before noon. (Austin) |
 |
Party Crasher | For checking in to the Brightkite Party. (Austin) |
 |
Photogenic | Check in to 3 different venues tagged as having a photo booth. |
 |
Pizzaiolo | Check in to 20 different Pizza Shops. |
 |
Player Please | Check in to a place that has three members of the opposite sex currently checked in. |
 |
Porky | Checking in at a BBQ place? (Austin) |
 |
School Night | Check in after 3:00am on a school night. |
 |
Super Mayor | Achieve 10 simultaneous Mayorships. |
 |
Super Star | Check in to 50 different venues. |
 |
Super User | Check in 30 times in a single month. |
 |
Survival | You survived SxSW (whatever that is). (Austin) |
 |
Swarm | Check in to a place where 50+ other foursquare users are currently checked in. |

Thriving Ivory | For checking in to the Thriving Ivory Fillmore Show. (San Francisco) |
 |
Trifecta | Check in to 3 of the Big 6 Name Brand Parties: Frog, Digg, Facebook, Goog, 32-bit, and The Decider. (I have no idea what this means!) |

Warhol | Check in to 10 different venues tagged “gallery”. |
 |
Zeotrope | Check in to 10 different movie theaters. |

A large group of us all got the “Swarm” badge at a recent Social Media Club Seattle event. Yes, you get it even if you are #49. I don’t get why we didn’t also get “Entourage.” Also, the BFF one is throwing me off, I’ve checked in with many of my friends more than 10 times… don’t know why we haven’t received it yet.

Thanks for the great list! Now that Wikipedia’s list of foursquare badges has been deleted, this is the next best resource.
I’m not sure if you’re planning to continually update this post, but if that’s your intention, could you split the list up into a few categories, like:
-Event specific badges
-City-specific badges
I want to earn as many of the badges as I can, but a lot of the event specific badges were one time deals that you can no longer earn.

Thanks for the comment and the good suggestions. I have been asked that by several people, and yes, it is in the works. I am coding a page to list them all and will draft posts with info on the newest badges unlocked or discovered.

FYI: The “JOBS” badge has changed to a Mac-looking badge (I picked it up recently), not the one you have posted with Apple’s logo. I assume it’s a copyright-thing.
Also, thanks for this list. Helped me clear up some of the requirements for a few of the badges.

Glad to help! If everyone chips in, we can all have a complete list. I saw your additions and plan on implementing them on my site as well.
I have currently found info on 106 badges. I am doing an update now. Should be out this weekend.

The pagination for badges sucks for mobile users. What are you trying to achieve by not listing all badges on one page? Not bandwidth that’s for sure!

Let me break this down for you:
Thanks for the “constructive criticism” you offered. Here’s an idea: if my mobile pagination “sucks,” don’t come back! I could care less if you approve. If you think I owe you something like pagination that you approve of…think again. Sure fire way to get someone to change something: write a comment like…YOURS!
Did you even bother to read the post? THE FIRST LINE:
If that wasn’t clear enough for you, how about the huge tab at the top that reads, “FOURSQUARE BADGES” that you could have clicked.
You see, ordinarily I just delete comments like yours, but you caught me on a bad day. I think I will just leave it here for all to read.
